Cockatiels are one of the most emotional bird species. They are intelligent as well as emotionally complex. They can express their joy, affection, sadness and stress through different activities. When raised with love and care, they get emotionally connected with their owner and show immense love to them.
Cockatiels usually molt as it helps them to shed out the old feathers and grow new and fresh feathers in place of them. Molting is a continuous process for a cockatiel. A cockatiel never feels cold due to the loss of its feathers. During molting, cockatiels can be tired.
Feather plucking is very common for cockatiels. Some of the feathers can be dropped off due to molting but if you notice some bald patches in your bird then it is sure that your bird is plucking feathers off. A long practice of plucking feathers can lead to a complete breakdown of the growth of new fluffy feathers.
Cockatiels love to dance just as much as humans do. This habit is extremely uncommon and only a few number of other creatures can do it. Typically, they mimic their owner’s dancing. Cockatiels also start swinging their heads and making other gestures when they hear a loud beat.
Cockatiels sometimes bit or nip their owners as well as other living beings. They are natural prey, so biting comes naturally to them. The biting does not happen all the time, and also not for the same reasons.
Cockatiels are capable of talking. They can sing too. They are not as chatty as other parrot species but they can learn some kind of small phrases like “Good Morning”, “Hello”, “Pretty Bird” and some others. Their memory is not as good as Cockatoos hence they do not have extraordinary vocabulary.
